Mill Lane United Yellows moved into the semi final of the U16 girls League Cup with a hard-fought victory against well organised committed opponents Costello.
First-half goals from Marie Russell, Tonya Storr and a 20yard effort from striker Alice Johnson late in the second half ensured the Yellows would be in the semi final draw.
Credit must go to their opponents Costello, who chased and harried throughout and made life difficult for their high-flying opponents. The Yellows offence normally receives the plaudits, but the defence was outstanding throughout the game ensuring the teams 6th consecutive clean sheet and in 18 games this season, they have only conceded 15 goals.
United’s defence of Amy Radford, Emily Holliday,Courtney McConville, Lucy Crockett, Molly Pluves and goal keeper Courtney Lees was in a mean mood as any Costello attack was well dealt with some superb tackling along with some intelligent balls out of defence to set the Yellows on the attack time after time.
Mill Lane United Yellows now look forward to their biggest game of the season to date next Saturday when they take on their club opponents as first and second look to take a big leap towards the title.
Man of the match went to defenders Emily Holliday and Amy Radford, who were outstanding throughout.
Final Score: Mill Lane United Yellows 3 Costello 0
