Beverley Town took another step towards retaining their Humber Premier League title with a vital 1 – 0 win over Hedon Rangers.
Town stumbled their way to three points in a match that lacked any real chances for either side eventually winning thanks to a goal from Tyler Collishaw.
Commenting on the game, manager Dave Ricardo said: “It may not have been the best game, but I am pleased to come away with all three points and another clean sheet.
“Rangers were a spirited and very well organised team, but I do not feel they caused us any real concerns during the game.
“We had the chances to score three or four in the second half but never converted them.”
Town, who at times looked lost in the game, struggled to find their feet, and a poor surface made it tricky to pass the ball.
But the manager blamed the performance on something else, he said: “We lacked communication out there. We need to be better at that, when your mate passes you the ball with an instruction it makes things easier.”
“The player receiving the ball can concentrate on controlling it as he already knows what the next pass is. This was a problem for us today. We did not use our communication skills.”
Ricardo will be hoping his side can continue to win as they face their two most important games of the season so far.
Ricardo continued: “For me, Chalk Lane on Tuesday night is the big one. We must win that match to keep the momentum going in the league.”
Chalk Lane are currently third in the Humber Premier League table but are out of the title race. After Saturday’s win Town are just five points behind Reckitts with five games in hand and remain odds on to retain their title.
