O'Connell Penalty Salvages A Point For Town At Norwood

Beverley Town remain on course to retain their title after a Michael O’Connell spot kick helped salvage a point for the champions at the Norwood Recreation Ground.

On bright evening, Town hosted third placed Chalk Lane, and it was the visitors who opened the scoring through Ross Armstrong strike with just over 30 minutes gone in the game.

Town got back on level terms when Luke Thompson was brought down in the box resulting in a penalty kick. Skipper O’Connell stepped up placing to the ball to the left of the keeper who almost got enough on the ball to prevent the goal.

Manager Dave Ricardo said after the game;

“Over all I was pleased with our approach to the game, Chalk Lane were a well-disciplined side; I thought the attitude we showed against a quality side was first class.”

“A point takes us closer to winning the Humber Premier League, we only need six more from a possible fifteen so we remain very confident we can do it.”

Attentions for Ricardo and the club as a whole will now switch to Saturday’s North Counties Senior Cup final, Ricardo said;

“It is good news for us that we came through the match with Chalk Lane without picking up any injuries. Our game on Saturday is massive not only for the club but the for Town as a whole so I am pleased to have the full squad available.”

Final Score: Beverley Town 1 Chalk Lane 1
