Customers at Tesco in Beverley will have the ability to donate food all year round to assist the Beverley branch of the Holderness foodbank.
New permanent collection points will be set up in selected stores across the nation and will list the types of food the local foodbank needs.
Customers wanting to donate are going to be asked to purchase items including long life milk, cereal, tinned foods and tea and coffee.
The food will then be distributed to the Beverley branch of the Holderness foodbank that is part of the Trussell Trust foodbank charity before being given to people in times of crisis.
Tesco has an on-going partnership with the Trussell Trust and food redistribution charity FareShare and hold two Neighbourhood Food Collections a year across all UK stores.
Alex Boak, store manager at Beverley Tesco said:
“Our customers are always incredibly generous when we hold our Neighbourhood Food Collections and we’re really pleased that we can now give them the opportunity to donate food to those in need year round. As with all the previous collections, Tesco will be topping up donations by 30%.”
