A group of Beverley gymnasts are preparing for the 15th World Gymnaestada, to be held in Helsinki next year.
Meridian Gymnastic Club will represent Great Britain next July in Finland in the global event.
The Gymnaestrada is a non-competitive event, promoting the value and diversity of gymnastics, with gymnasts from the four corners of the globe presenting the diversity of gymnastics to the wider public as a contribution towards the friendship of nations.
The local gymnasts will be joining 100s of active performers from around Great Britain in demonstrating their skills in a number of choreographed displays as part of this international event.
However, such a trip does not come cheap, and the girls are embarking on a series of fundraising activities over the next 12 months.
The chair of the Meridian Helsinki Committee Nicki Allsup said: “This is a unique opportunity for our girls’ personal growth as gymnasts and athletes and the chance to act as ambassadors for leisure and sports in the East Riding.
“The minimum cost per gymnast will be £850, with 19 gymnasts hoping to raise enough money to attend. Over the next 12 months the girls will be involved in a programme of fundraising activities including bag packing, quiz night, sponsored sporting events and other activities.
“Look out for the girls out and about the East Riding and please offer your support in our fundraising efforts. Any donation would be gratefully accepted.
