More Jobs Means A More Secure Future For People In Beverley And Holderness

Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart, has welcomed new figures released this week that show the number of people in work in Yorkshire and the Humber has increased by 133,000 since the last election.

Commenting on these figures Graham said:

“It’s excellent news that thousands more people are in work in our area since 2010; that means 133,000 more people with a regular pay packet to bring home to their families, giving them a more financially secure future.

“Here in Beverley and Holderness there are fewer people on benefits than there were last year, with a record low of 2.8% of the working-age population claiming Job Seekers’ Allowance.

“Falling unemployment has a beneficial effect throughout the community; the more people in work, the more money is spent in local businesses, creating greater local prosperity, vitality and further employment.

“There is more to do, but as these figures show, the Conservatives’ long-term economic plan is working. We need to stick to the plan. It’s getting people off benefits and into work, delivering a more secure future for people who want to get on in life.”
