Late drama saw the Basketball side DST Wild Dogs cup hopes come tumbling down after they were beaten in the final seconds of the game by the BC Falcons.
Having been successful within the tri-service tournaments the DST Wild Dogs have enjoyed an impressive season in the civilian Humber Basketball League and reached League Play-Off Finals Week, a first for a military team.
With only 43 seconds on the clock, the Wild Dogs had one hand on the cup until an inspirational come back led by Edgaras Bruzas turned the game on its head leaving the Falcons to soar into the next round.
A delighted Giedrius Sumila the player manager of BC Falcons said after the game;
“The First half was terrible for our guys, but in third quarter our captain Bruzas showed character and fired-up team.”
“That last quarter was longest in my life. With only two, minutes left, and we were down by seven points, but again, our captain showed everyone that he never gives up and got the points to win the game.”
“It was really an amazing game. This was the first time we have played DST, they are a really strong team, I would like to say well done guys for putting on such a good match.”
BC Falcon will play on Sunday in the HBA Premier League play-off semi-final against the Kingston Panthers. Sumila, when asked if he could see his side winning he said;
“We have played two times this season, and we won the home game but lost the away match. So it is must be another good game for our lads and fans.”
Wild Dogs Coach Dave Mccoid;
“We were always the under dogs with the falcons being in the top division, however we put in a strong performance that did the club proud and should of won the game, with promotion to the top league next year we have shown we have what it takes already knocking out 2 of the other top teams before making it to the finals.”
