This year St Mary’s Open Day will include all the usual attractions of stalls, live music and refreshments as well as a roving magician, a bouncy castle, face painting and tours of the church and church tower.
In addition, there will also be the opportunity to watch your teddy bear experience the excitement of a parachute jump. It doesn’t matter if your teddy does not have a parachute; children are welcome to come and make the parachutes during the day.
The teddies will make their brave leap at 3pm, and all will be awarded a certificate. We have already done a trial run, and if it is too breezy, the teddies may not jump from the tower but from another part of the church (for safety reasons).
Children might also like to join in with the other crafts or even make their own pizza to eat for lunch while adults enjoy the views from the tower, and ladies have their nails done.
For the grown ups there will also be opportunities to see the priests’ rooms and ancient church records and enjoy refreshments as musicians such as Cherie Lawrence, the Church Choir and young musicians connected with the folk festival.
St Mary’s Church Open Day has become something of a special day in the town’s calendar, and we know how much the church is valued by people in our community.
The Open Day is an opportunity to celebrate this magnificent building, but it is also a time to celebrate the life of the church and all the associated activities.
This will be an excellent day out, and it is hoped that the events will raise money to help keep the church open and active within Beverley.
There is no entrance fee.
The Open Day is on Saturday 31 May from 10-4pm
