Darren Nesbitt who was arrested in Beverley in May for his musical performance of ‘Fracking Songs’ has been banned from Beverley as part of the terms to his bail conditions, however he will be allowed back so he can perform at the Folk Festival.
Nesbitt is accused of threatening or abusive words or behaviour within sight of persons likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress will was bailed to appear at court on 17th July in Bridlington.
There was some good news, Nesbitt who is from Lancashire has been invited to perform at the Beverley Folk Festival later this month and because of this was given some flexibility in his bail conditions.
The judge recognising that music is his profession has agreed to allow him to come into Beverley so he can attend the musical event at Beverley Racecourse which is being held 19th-22nd June.
Beverley Folk Festival, which is a not for profit organisation and receives a financial support through grants, private sponsorship and attracts people from all over the country will see Nesbitt appear at the same event as the likes of Chas and Dave and Billy Bragg.
His arrest in Beverley led to local Green Party member Shan Oakes, saying;
“The police turned up and caused a disturbance and tried to find people who would make complaints about the music.”
“Beverley usually has musicians playing. The police had several vans, and everyone was asking why there were there, what a waste of public money!”
These views were not however shared by everyone who was in the town centre at the time, one shopper’s view of what happened described a much different picture, they said at the time;
“Walking through Beverley with my 12-year-old today I felt very intimidated by these people. The language was disgusting. I have lived in Beverley all my life and did not recognise anybody local.”
Nesbitt has been in Beverley to lend his support to the ongoing campaign to prevent fracking for shale gas on site in Walkington.
Commenting on the news a spokes person for Beverley Folk Festival said;
“The Folk Festival has checked and to the best of our knowledge we have not booked Darren Nesbitt. Nor have we been contacted about using the festival as part of his legal case or in any press releases from the anti-fracking campaigners. However, he could be coming to the event as an individual festival-goer or performing at fringe events elsewhere in town, which are not organised by the festival itself.”
Honestly, he was mainly singing Oasis songs! My mum saw it, she hates swearing and didn’t have a problem with this comedy song at all. She thought the bit about the queen being arrested in her dressing gown was particularly funny – and even more so now that the queen has supported a bill to drill under everyone’s home without their permission, something opposed by 73% of the country! She thought it was more a case of ‘how many cops did it take to change a lightbulb’. Ridiculous and uncalled for police presence against people who have never been associated with anything other than peaceful protest. I applaud the people at the camp. This is just what we need locally to focus on what is happening on our doorstep and empower people to take action against it before our homes become worthless and the rise in birth defects reaches Royston Vasey levels. It’s plain as day Graham Stewart and his cronies aren’t going to help us.
Is that Darren Nesbitt the film star from “Where Eagles Dare” and DCI Jordan in “Special Branch”?
