Officials at Beverley ARLC were full of excitement for the forthcoming 2014/2015 season in the Hull & District League having appointed a new coaching team. The two names will be familiar to many people in sporting circles in the town.
The head coach will be Pat Howdle, who in a previous spell at the club coached a highly successful junior side from under 8s through to under 16s. He then went to coach at Hull FC and Doncaster at a scholarship level next going on to work for the RFL as a coach educator.
The assistant coach and conditioner will be Duncan O’Connor whose physiotherapy and conditioning career has spanned 12 years at Hull KR and included spells working with the Wales and Great Britain student’s sides in their respective World Cups.
Chairman Graham Ostler commented;
“We are pleased to bring two names to the club with such a wealth of experience and contacts. They were both regular spectators at our matches last season and were bowled over with the spirit and enthusiasm for the club but were disappointed that it too often failed to translate into results”
The blue and golds have confirmed that they will retain virtually all of last years playing rota but hope the new regime will enable significant strengthening of the squad.
The coaching duo are very keen to crack on with the job and have already commenced pre-season training every Thursday evening at 6.30pm at Beverley Leisure Centre, behind the Hodgsons Pub.
New players or even old ones who may have previously played for the junior section are most welcome.
