Beverley’s Georgian Quarter In the Frame

The East Riding of Yorkshire’s biggest ever art fair is rapidly taking shape with at least fifty artists taking part in an event being held in the Beverley Georgian Quarter.

Organisers of the event say;

“Off The Wall”, that is free, takes place in Beverley’s Georgian Quarter on Saturday 12th July and includes workshops and demonstrations as well as exhibitions and professional work for sale. With stalls across the wall outside St Mary’s Manor in addition to sculptural work in Coronation Gardens, and work in the Church and Beverley Arms Hotel it promises to be a busy and exciting day.”

Many members of East Riding Artists will be exhibiting as well as other photographers, ceramicists and print makers. Artists Stef Mitchell and Bade Kafadar will be running print workshops suitable for children and adults and Steve Elliot’s mask making workshop is likely to be a big attraction too.

St Mary’s Church bell tower will be open with a promised visit by Quasimodo as part of the incorporated Beverley Bells Festival and dancers and handbell ringers will help entertain the crowds. The church will also host an exhibition by Viewfinder Photographic Society and local schools.

Beverley Puppet Festival, the largest puppet festival in England, will also contribute with a presence in the Georgian Quarter and their own celebrations in the Friary Gardens and evening shows over the weekend.

Nigel Walker of Creation Fine Arts said;

“This is a great opportunity for artists to make con-tact with the public. It will be a fun day and there will be something for all the family as well as it showing many aspects of contemporary art.”

The day is supported by Beverley Town Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council with additional funding from East Riding Artists, The Georgian Quarter, Creation Fine Arts and the Big Gig.
