Walkington Primary School were runners up in competition ran by Quickline Communications to find a new name for the P1 Power Boat for the Hull Speed Ahead Team.
Healing Primary School in North East Lincolnshire won the competition to name Hull’s Number 17 boat for the upcoming 2014 race season with the name ‘Hullabaloo’ which was unveiled at a ceremony at The Deep in Hull.
Humber Region primary schools were invited to enter a competition to name the boat by Hull Speed Ahead’s major sponsor Quickline through one of their brands Safe and Connected – keeping children safe online. This year the competition was opened up region wide in a bid to involve as many people from outside of the City as possible. Organisers had a fantastic response with dozens of entries themed on Hull’s 2017 City of Culture status.
Esther Damary-Thompson from Hull Speed Ahead says:
“We’ve had a great response. It feels good to know that so many people from outside of Hull are equally passionate about the power boat and the City of Culture. Voting took place last month and the name ‘Hullabaloo’ fitted perfectly.”
“We were delighted to announce Healing Primary School as the overall winner.”
“The Hull race team will be competing in the 2014 P1 SuperStock Championship in the push for a podium position at the home race on the Humber on 21st and 22nd June 2014. The schools competition prize has offered an excellent package to enable local schools to get on-board with this event.”
Lindy Andersen from Quickline arranged this year’s name the boat competition. She says:
“As one of the major sponsors of Hull Speed Ahead we wanted to involve people from far and wide as the power boat championship attracts thousands of people into Hull to support this exhilarating event on the Humber. The name the boat competition has helped to include people from outside of the City.”
“Healing Primary School has won an excellent prize which includes their chosen name on the boat and we will take the boat to the school this week during pre-event promotions. The pupils will get to meet the Hull ‘born and bred’ drivers for photos and questions and also be invited to the home race on 21st June.”
The Hull Speed Ahead campaign is funded through the local business community. Local advertising agency Forward and Thinking Limited is proud to be backing the campaign with joint sponsors Quickline Communications, a local wireless internet service provider.
