All roads lead to Hull next week for the country’s P1 SuperStock racers and AquaX jet ski riders as the 2014 UK Championships take to the Humber at the weekend.
Beverley born John Wilson won in Hull three years ago on his way to becoming SuperStock champion and he will be looking for a repeat performance in his Pertemps-backed Panther boat to maintain his 2014 title challenge, commenting on his return to the region he said;
“East Yorkshire is my home county” said John “and I love coming back to race on the Humber, which could prove to be a very challenging course if there are strong winds.”
However, all eyes will be on Hull Speed Ahead and Local Crew David Taft and Gavin Feldt, as they go against 9 other teams in our home race. As well as the P1 Panther races, there will also be AquaX jet ski racing across the weekend where we welcome local driver, Steve Robinson #323 who will also be waving the flag for Hull.
HullSpeedAhead is funded with sponsorship from Hull’s Business Community and will be promoting our 2017 City of Culture. It is racing across the UK raising the profile of Hull, which has continued to host one of the UK legs of the World Championships for the past four years.
Team Manager Esther Damary-Thompson said;
“The Hull Grand Prix of the Sea has become a favourite event for both racers and fans, and big crowds are expected for the two days of free-to-watch, high-speed action. We are going out there to race on our home territory and to race hard… this is where we come into our own.”
The P1 racers and riders will be finalising their preparations on the river on Friday, with official practice scheduled to start at midday on Saturday.
The best place to watch the powerboat races will be at the waterfront near the pier and the bull nose.
Minerva and 1884 Dock Street Kitchen have come together to create a full weekend for all… with stalls, music, Freestyle Jet Ski and The Minerva’s beer festival all taking place on the Pier.
The powerboat race weekend will begin on the 21st with the first race at 12pm and running onto Sunday.
