Now that the summer months have arrived it is hoped that pavement café culture will start to flourish in Beverley’s refurbished Saturday Market.
At the other end of the town centre Wednesday Market is already busy on fine days, with plenty of people enjoying the chance to sit outside and enjoy a drink or something to eat.
St Mary’s Ward Councillor Bryan Pearson believes that the recent changes to Saturday Market will help to promote outside seating at cafes as the newly widened pavements are ideal for tables and chairs while still leaving plenty of room for pedestrians.
He said:
“Outside seating can add life and vibrancy during the summer months and is often a real asset when it comes to attracting more visitors and increasing footfall. Of course, businesses will still have to make sure they have the right permissions and that the throughway is not affected before putting out tables and chairs but the refurbishment of Saturday Market has made it much better suited to a pavement café culture”
Councillor Pearson recently spent some time in Saturday Market speaking to residents and visitors about their thoughts on the alterations to the square and was pleased to find that the feedback was largely positive.
He added:
“Beverley has always been a beautiful town but I think that the recent investment in Saturday Market has made the area more accessible for everyone. It is great news that people will hopefully have the opportunity to make more use of this wonderful public space”
