There Was Big Performances Throughout The Team Says Tim Smith

Beverley Town Cricket Club 2nd Xl kept up their promising start to the season with a convincing six wicket win against Carlton Towers on Saturday at the Norwood Recreation Ground.

Claiming all 30 points keeps Beverley Cricket Club 2nd XI in second place in the league and skipper Tim Smith was really pleased with the result, he said;

“This was a really good and strong performance by the whole team. Our bowlers went for just 10 runs in the opening ten over’s setting the platform for us to win the game.”

“Throughout the team there was big performances, Jonny Vodden got four catches, Pete Parnaby took a hat full of wickets and there was runs for most of the batters.”

Carlton Towers batted first and found runs hard to come by against the opening attack of Kevin Thompson and Brad Graham who both bowled excellent opening spells.

The visitors managed to post 146 for 9. The ever reliable Pete Parnaby finished with 4 for 39 and he was well backed up by Steve Blake and Brad Graham who both got two wickets each. Rich Riley also picked up his first wicket for the Beavers. Jonny Vodden was outstanding in the field taking four catches.

The Beavers got off to a bright start until they lost Mike Cook for 13. In form Greg Whyley failed for the first time this season but skipper Tim Smith looked in good touch until he departed for 48.

Smith who led by example in the middle, commenting on his innings he said;

“It was the best I have batted all season, I felt good out there, my timing was perfect. I felt so confident I turned to Vodden in the middle and told him I got my eye on a ton here.”

Smith however did not make a century, the opener was dismissed after trying to play a cover drive and edging the ball, he said;

“I really felt I was on for a big score and was frustrated when I was caught out. When the ball came in I was slightly off balance and got a slight touch on it.”

Vodden and Paul Best put together a useful partnership until Best departed to a poor shot.

Vodden however kept the momentum going as he finished things off, ending on 40 not out, along with a determined Kevin Thompson (12 no) as the Beavers passed the visitors total with ten over’s and six wickets to spare. The 2nds remain in second position in Division 2 South.

Smith added;

“All things considered this was a great team effort, the result keeps us right there in the mix to win the league.”

“Although I am not available next weekend I am sure the side will continue this run of form and take the momentum into the match with Patrington, it is a match we should win.”
