The 4th Leven Real Ale festival takes place on the 20th and 21st of June at the New Inn Leven. Set within the Historic Georgian courtyard people will get the chance to try a fantastic range or beer and cider served from the famous stable bars nestled at the back of the courtyard.
This year the festival is making a bold claim to be the first East Yorkshire themed real ale festival with the majority of ales on offer from all 14 of the regions breweries.
James Harper Festival organiser said:
“When we started the Leven Real Ale Festival 4 years ago there were only 3 or 4 decent local breweries that we could include in the festival with the rest of the beers coming from breweries across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.”
“But after the surge in interest and enterprising local brewers, we now have a great selection, and our aim is to try and bring them all together so real ale lovers can try the best beers from our part of the world.”
“In addition to firm favourites from Great Newsome Brewery and Wold Top, there will be new beers to try from Crystal Brewery, Half Moon, Bridlington Brewery, Atom and more.”
In addition to the local beer theme, this year festival organisers are hoping to pull in pounds for pints as they support the Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Trust. Who do a fantastic job in supporting ex service men and women from our region who have suffered physically, mentally or financially as a direct result of them serving in conflicts.
Andy East who represents the charity said:
“Its fantastic to be part of the Leven real Ale festival, and we hope that we can raise a decent amount for the charity to help continue the invaluable contribution the charity makes to so many ex service men and women.”
“It is also rather special that this year’s festival glasses will have the Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Trust on in pride of place. We are also hoping to raise extra funds from the cask sponsorship, in addition to businesses wanting to display their company logo on the casks quite a few people have sponsored and dedicated a beer or cider to a loved one lost in conflict.”
There is some top entertainment on at this year’s festival, including West End star Danny Taylor from Liverpool who is playing on Friday the 20th. He is direct from the UK Tour of Blood Brothers and about to star as Tommy in the Tommy Cooper show in Edinburgh Festival.
Danny will be performing an acoustic set for about 1.5hrs with songs you may know and some from his own material. In addition to Danny, there are some great local bands and singers who will be keeping festival goers entertained whilst drinking in the late June sunshine.
The Real Ale Festival follows the same format as in previous years with doors opening on the Friday night at 6.00 and last orders at 11.00pm and opening on the Saturday at 12.00 noon and last orders again at 11.00pm. Across the weekend, there is live music, great festival food from the New Inn and lots of great beers and ciders.
The Friday night is a ticket only session and tickets are on sale from the New Inn Leven, Beverley Tourist Information Centre and on line. Some tickets will be left on the door but are priced more expensive. The Saturday is pay on the door.
