Beverley Braves U9s were full of confidence going into their match with the Lambwath Lions.
Having won their last game and beaten the Lions earlier in the season it came as no surprise that the Blues & Golds won the game comfortably after a slow start.
Braves coach Mark Young told speaking after the game told HU17.net;
“As a team we played very well against a spirited Lions side. Not being the biggest team in the league we focus on a passing game and using the skill of the players to win games.”
“Today it took a bit of time and hint of over confidence meant we were maybe trying things we do not normally as group of players.”
“It is fair to say we played too much one man rugby at times but the lads soon clicked into gear and started to play our passing game.”
Lambwath had clearly worked hard during training taking an early lead after breaking through the Braves defence, with a mixture of power and pace.
Beverley used the speed of their players to make attack from defence with two tries a piece for James Marr and William Wilson before half time taking control of the match.
Despite the lead the Lions remained a danger and exploited a lack of defence on the wing to score their second before half time. In the second half Lambwath, without any substitutes, started to tire.
Sensing their chance the Beverley Braves ran in a handful of tries but it was only towards the end of the game that the Braves started to demonstrate some of their best rugby.
George Youngs and Wilson were instrumental in the passing that led to the best two tries of the game, scored by Samuel Shrimpton and James Marr.
There were some notable performances including the five tries from William Wilson but man of the match went to Oscar Thomas, who put in his best tackling performance to date.
The score line at the end was a little harsh on the Lions who scored some excellent tries of their own.
Young added;
“There were some big performances out there today, we may not have been at our best but the lads showed their class when they did begin to play for one another.”
Final Score: Beverley Braves 10 Lamwath Lions 4
