The NHS will celebrate it’s 66th birthday on Saturday July 5 AND Campaigners in Beverley will be asking shoppers to vote on whether or not they should be required to pay a fee in order to get an appointment with their GP.
Beverley Labour will be rolling out the ballot box in Toll Gavel from 10am till noon on Saturday outside Wilkinsons and people will be asked to vote, Yes, No or Don’t know.
Speaking ahead of the weekend’s poll Labour’s Press Officer in Beverley George McManus said;
“As the NHS hits its 66th birthday people are asking questions about what its future holds. Last month, Tory Minister Jane Ellison said that the Tories ‘Gave away control of the NHS’ and that she found it ‘quite exciting.’ to do so.”
He added;
“There have been calls for charges to be introduced and we want to know what the public thinks. This will be a big issue on the doorsteps next year when we have a General Election.”
“The Labour policy is to repeal the NHS and Social Care Act and to return democratic accountability to the NHS. I would urge people to come along and have their say.”
In June the local Labour Party conducted a poll of people in Beverley in order to gauge how they felt about fracking East Yorkshire.
It is hoped this poll will also give Labour and idea of how people locally feel about having to pay to see a GP.
