Staff, pupils, parents and governors at St Mary’s Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School, in Beverley, are celebrating after the school was rated as outstanding in its recent National Society Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools Report.
Lucy Jordan, head teacher of St Mary’s Primary School, said:
“I am really proud of all my pupils and staff for achieving outstanding status, the inspectors were really impressed by the strong sense of community at the school and how this helps our children to fulfil their potential.”
Inspectors visited the school, which teaches more than 400 four-to-11-year-olds, in June and highlighted the individuality and effectiveness of the school to be key to it achieving outstanding status.
The report said:
“Christian values are deeply embedded and nurture every pupil’s good academic achievement and personal development.”
“A highly collaborative approach to collective worship results in consistently meaningful and vibrant worship at the heart of school life.”
“Inspirational distributive leadership and strong governance ensure effective improvements to the school’s distinctiveness as a church school.”
“Excellent relationships with local church enrich the life of the school.”
The church report is the latest success for the school and follows last November’s Ofsted report, which saw the school rated up from satisfactory to good.
Lucy added;
“The school is really going places, with this outstanding church report coming on the back of our recent Ofsted inspection that saw us rated as good, as we aim to continue to be an effective school that delivers well for pupils as they prepare for the next stage of their education, training and future employment.”
Councillor Julie Abraham, cabinet portfolio holder for children, young people and education, said:
“I am delighted for St Mary’s Primary School which continues to go from strength-to-strength.”
“This outstanding church report and the recent Good Ofsted report are evidence of the effective leadership of the school’s management and that the enjoyable school environment is helping pupils to do well and achieve their potential.”
