Art Goes Back On The Walls At Beverley Art Gallery

The painting ‘Recuperation’ by John Walter Hadland has just been restored to its place in the newly refurbished stairwell at Beverley Art Gallery.

The oil on canvas of resting hounds is an impressive 274cm x 182cm and has returned from being cleaned. Art handling experts Arterium transported and re-hung the painting using specialist equipment.

Curator Gerardine Mulcahy-Parker said,

‘This striking piece of art has been conserved and will be newly available to the public as part of Beverley Art Gallery’s renovation.’

The gallery’s collection also includes ‘Cowshed’, ‘Milking Cows’ and ‘Three Horses’ Heads’ by the same artist.

The gallery has recently undergone a refurbishment which will allow the council to attract high-calibre art works with national acclaim to the town. It reopens on Saturday (19 July) with an exhibition of sculpture entitled ‘Drawing stone from the landscape’ by Daniel Fraser Jones.

Councillor Richard Burton, portfolio holder for civic wellbeing and culture at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said;

“It’s great to see the marvellous Art Gallery in Beverley coming back to life. This council remains committed to establishing an exciting cultural quarter in Beverley for the benefit of residents and visitors alike, and I am looking forward to the reopening.”
