After a long hard season, the girls finished strongly, they had some mixed results on the way but managed a very respectable third in the league, not only doing well in the league, they knocked out the league champions Hessle Sporting in a thrilling cup semi- final at Walkington that went all the way to penalties…putting the girls into the final at Dunswell.
There they came up against a very good Hornsea team in the final, but the mill lane girls were up for it, and this game was only going to go one way, the girls won 3-0 to lift the cup.
They then went on to lift the cup at the Horsforth tournament in Leeds and then to Goole where they were outstanding and came out winners again.
Manager Neil Gillyon and coach Stuart Lunn thanked the girls for a fantastic season, but had one more surprise in store!
With the girls moving to 11 a side next season and moving up an age group. This is where a lot of teams struggle to stay together, but not for mill lane united,
Manager and coach announced the arrival of new players but more importantly were pleased to announce that the team now had the backing of new sponsors ” The Game Bird Hotel and Restaurant, Beverley.
The team held their end of season presentation at The Game Bird, which was a fantastic day topped off by owner Wayne Low presenting the team with funds, which will enable them to buy full new kit for next season. This takes the pressure off immensely and allows the team to progress forward for another season.
Everyone involved with the team would like to thank The Game Bird, this kind of generosity is what keeps teams together so they can carry on doing what they love.
