A new exhibition opens at Beverley Art Gallery this weekend featuring the work of South Yorkshire based artist Dan Jones.
Directly inspired by the landscape around him, Dan takes delight in the natural objects and artefacts that he finds within it.
Drawings and small sculptures record his finds and inform the visual language used in his larger works.
Dan who works from studio in Doncaster exhibition continues his links with the East Riding of Yorkshire, and the arrival of his sculptures has already caught the attention of locals.
Speaking to HU17.net Dan said;
“Big crowds gathered yesterday outside the gallery, they were coming out of the magistrates’ court and just stopping in the street to watch as the main piece, a two ton sculpture was being taken off the lorry and into the art gallery.”
Dan is no stranger to the East Riding. He has already been commissioned to provide two bits of work. The first was a large sculpture of Whale skeleton at Burton Constable whom he crafted from Oak and stone and also a sculpture trail.
The arrival of his working Beverley continues his links to the county with his sculptures being displayed for the next nine weeks at an exhibition entitled ‘Drawing Stone From the Landscape.’
Dan added;
“It has been a long project taking around two years to produce the work based on Yorkshire. I will be there for the opening and also will be hosting a talk about my work at the Treasure House.”
The exhibition opens on the 19th July and runs until 20th September at Beverley Art Gallery, admission is free.
