Outstanding Skirlaugh Beat Braves

After a string of terrific performances the Braves were looking forward to a re-match with Skirlaugh.

The Beverley Braves started nervously, were tentative in the tackle and allowed Skirlaugh to score on their first set. Sam Shrimpton quickly levelled the scores, surprising the opposition with his acceleration.

In attack Beverley came up against the best defence they have played this season. There were almost no missed tackles so each phase produced limited yards and when the Braves tried to pass it wide, Skirlaugh were quick up to their opponents to prevent any gains.

This high quality tackling put Beverley under extreme pressure which led to poor passing decisions that gifted turn over ball in dangerous positions. By half time Skirlaugh had scored four more tries without reply and thoroughly deserved their lead.

Beverley responded well in the second half and there were many more positive moments. Five consecutive phases of direct running from Tom Murphy, Louix Gorman and Matty Smith with no errors allowed William Wilson to power over.

Credit also to Roberto Seminara who was alert to an opportunity, after a rare Skirlaugh mistake, to release Sam Shrimpton for a simple try. The two teams were very well matched in talent but Skirlaugh were outstanding as a team, especially in defence.

Man of the match for Beverley was awarded to William Wilson.
