Tractor rides, behind the scenes tours and lots more, that is what is on offer today at Beverley Racecourse alongside the horse racing for their Newcomers’ Raceday.
Kate McKee from Beverley Racecourse said;
“This is my favourite meeting of the season. Newcomers’ Raceday really helps to break down the barriers of horse racing and show people there is more to the sport than just gambling.”
“We have lots of activities for people to enjoy and with it being the school holiday there is plenty for the youngsters too.”
“Before each race there is chance to jump on a tractor and take a ride to the start line where you can see the horses being loaded and watch them set off.”
“Last season this was very popular and the children really enjoyed the ride in the tractor.”
“Our course clerk will also be giving behind the scene tours, these are a 1pm and 1.30pm and will give people a very unique opportunity to see firsthand parts of the racecourse, like the weighing room, which are normally out of bounds.”
“At 1.40pm there will also be a Big Parade that will feature a number of non race horses. This will take place in the main parade ring before heading out onto the track.”
With fine weather forecast and the school holidays now in full swing an afternoon at the races could be ideal for all the family.
Children when accompanied by an adult can get in free and once inside will get a real hands on experience of racing.
The gates open at 12 noon at Beverley Racecourse with the first race of card featuring 7 races setting off at 2.20pm.
