Protesters Face Eviction From Crawberry Hill After High Court Ruling

Protesters at the Crawberry Hill Protection Camp in Walkington suffered a small set back today after the high court in London granted an eviction notice.

For some time now protesters have been camped out on the site managed by Rathlin Energy (UK) Ltd in an attempt to prevent the company from carrying out work to explore for Shale Gas.

Despite numerous claims by Rathlin Energy that the company are not ‘fracking’ concerns continue to grow within the local population of Walkington and Beverley that once Rathlin have finished fracking will indeed take place.

A member of the camp speaking about the decision today told HU17.net;

“The farmer claims they do not have access to their field  which is not the case. The tower which has been constructed and is a home to a number of people does not prevent access to his field.”

Protesters at the camp will are now awaiting a visit from the Police Liaison Officers who will tell them when the bailiffs are due to remove them from the site.

Tension has been rising across the country after the government yesterday announced it will issue fracking licences which could include some beauty spots around the country.

Greenpeace UK energy campaigner Simon Clydesdale highlighted the ‘sneaky’ tactics being used by the government when it comes fracking, he said;

“Sneaking out the 14th licensing round after MPs have gone off on their summer holidays shows just how politically toxic fracking has become,”

“With MPs in Tory heartlands feeling the heat and all but seven cabinet ministers threatened by drilling in their constituencies, there could be a high political price to pay for this shale steamroller at next year’s general election.”

Local energy expert Sam Pickles warned local business  people at a recent event held at the Tickton Grange Hotel  that the region could not handle the ‘volume of lorries’ needed to transport water and toxic waste to and from the sites.

For now the protesters at Crawberry Hill Protection Camp are going nowhere, all they can hope for is that they get ample warning of when the bailiffs will arrive to turf them out of tower they call home.
