This weekend, Jordan Rushby travelled down to Anglesey in Wales for rounds 12 & 13 of the Thundersport GB National 2014 Championships, with AL Joinery Racing in the Sportsman Elite 600 class on board the Yamaha R6 Superstock race bike.
Rushby was yet again faced with another New track. He had been to Anglesey before in 2012 on board his Aprilia RS 125, but he had only ever done the International circuit on a bike with 28hp.
Rushby, currently in 8th position in the Superstock 600 championship on board the AL Joinery R6, and was looking to try and add some more points to his total.
Practice on Saturday went well, with lap times getting quicker in every session through the day. He was also able to string consistent lap times together.
After checking the data before the lunch break a couple of areas were identified as been areas where it was thought Jordan might be able to improve, and both Alan Tanton and Jordan went on a track walk to discuss were things could be improved upon to try to better the lap times.
The first session after the break and already his times had improved by 1 second a lap.
Sunday and race day, Jordan managed to qualify in 17th for the afternoon race and placed him on the 5th row on the right-hand side of the track.
He was confident that with a good start that he could move up the field. The race started, and Jordan made up a few positions before tipping into the first left hander, with this been a 12 lap race he had time to get into a rythum and pick his way through the field, were he managed to finish 12th on track and 9th in class.
Monday race day and the weather had changed overnight, and we woke to a wet track. The forecast was not looking good for the rest of the day.
Jordan’s first race of the day was declared a wet race, and Jordan went with a full wet set up, and this was to be a 14 lap race. Jordan again got off to another good start, moving up several places on the first lap. He managed to set consistent lap times straight away.
By midway through the race, the track was starting to dry and the rear wet was deteriorating and losing grip as the race went on. He managed to finish 12th on track and 7th in class, a good result in some tricky conditions.
Jordan’s second race of the day was to be the last race of the day. The weather was now persistent heavy rain and conditions were fit for a jet ski. He managed to finish the race in 16th and 9th in class and pack the bike away in one piece ready for Donington Park 27th & 28th September.
