East Riding of Yorkshire Council is in the process of designing its local Council Tax Support Scheme for the financial year 2015-16.
Council tax support was implemented on 1 April 2013 and replaced the former national council tax benefit scheme. The maximum amount of support available to working-age households in the East Riding is 75 per cent, which means that every working-age household is required to pay at least 25 per cent of their council tax bill.
Pension age households are excluded from the changes and continue to receive help under a national scheme.
Local authorities must review their schemes annually, and it is proposed that the scheme for 2015-16 remains the same with the maximum amount of support of 75 per cent for working-age customers.
A web-based consultation is being carried out between 1 September 2014 and 12 October 2014. The council wants to ask for the views of residents on this proposal before members make a final decision in January 2015.
Anyone wishing to respond to the consultation should click here and visit the on the council’s website.
