Two Red Cards Prove Costly For Beverley

Beverley-Town-Fc

Though the records show that Hornsea Town took all three Humber Premier League points, the outcome of the game was largely down to the fact that Beverley Town had to play out the last 25 minutes with nine men.

Beverley started the game well and were enjoying plenty of possession through their dominance in midfield. Lomas, who scored the winner in midweek and Hirst kept the ball well briging Danny Norton into the game whenever possible.

In the 25th minute, a Hornsea through ball was misjudged by the defence and as keeper Dixon came racing out of his area, a Hornsea player attempted to lob the ball over him.

He raised his hands in a natural reaction and handled the ball which the referee, Garry Fletcher-Tindall  deemed as denying a goal scoring opportunity sending him off. Bedford took the keepers shirt, and the game carried on in the same pattern with Beverley in charge.

The second half was similar with Hornsea Town keeper the busier of the two, and it looked only a matter of time before Beverley would take the lead.

However, the referee was to make a decision which totally changed the game. In the 65th minute, a Hornsea player found himself under pressure from Beverley full back Mike Dixon who was attempting to win his team a corner.

As Dixon made what appeared to be an innocuous tackle, the referee blew for a free kick,  Fletcher-Tindal then showed Dixon the red card and told him he was being sent off for stamping.

Town re organised and made a couple of changes, Town could not keep hold of the game as tired legs and frustration entered the fray. Hornsea’s sub Richmond put a good ball in the box which was swept home and minutes later,a Hornsea player fired home from close range to secure the points.

Town were naturally disappointed with the result and know the likelihood is they would have taken something from this game had they been able to complete the game with at least 10 men.

Final Score: Hornsea Town 2 Beverley Town Football Club 0
