Offenders Help Council Clear Beck Tow Path

Teams of offenders from community payback will be working with East Riding of Yorkshire Council to clear the tow path along the south side of Beverley Beck.

The teams, organised by the probation service, will start work on Monday, 29 September, working with council officers, including dog wardens. The area is popular with dog walkers.

The tow path will be cleared between the bridge for the Hull Road flyover and Crane Hill Wharf. Over the summer, the area has become overgrown with weeds and bushes. A grounds maintenance team from the council will then weed the area. The clearance will also provide better access to the fishing platforms.

Nigel Brignall, the manager of the council’s anti-social behaviour team, said:

“This is a prime example of how community sentences work for the good of the community. The work involved will include cutting back shrubs and overgrown plants and lopping of any low branches.”

Helen Gunn, community payback operational manager for Humberside, Lincolnshire and North Yorkshire Community Rehabilitation Company, said:

“The offenders are working as part of their reparation. It is justice at work in the community, as well as giving offenders the chance to reconnect with what is going on in the area in which they live.”
