Beverley Minster & Woodmansey Policing Update For September 2014

Humberside Police

1. Priorities and Actions

Issue: – Burglaries

Police are warning residents in Beverley to be on their guard following a high number of burglaries in the area.

A total of 15 houses have been burgled in recent weeks.

Many of you will live in these areas and we would like to ask you to not only keep yourselves and your property safe by keeping doors locked and windows closed but also for you to keep an eye out and report anything that is suspicious.

Areas targeted include Hill Crest Drive, Carlton Rise, Scrubwood Lane, Beverley Parklands, Morton Lane, Old Road, St Pauls Drive, Warwick Drive, Newbald Road, Hambling Drive, Ferguson Road, Rosemary Walk, Marsh Drive off Woodmansey Mile and Seven Corners Lane.

Several of the burglaries happened through offenders gaining entry via an open ground floor window or door. They also happened during the day.

Extra high visibility foot and mobile patrols are being carried out in the area during times when we believe offences have occurred.

* Five people have now been arrested in connection with the above offences which should hopefully result in prison sentences and a stop in offences.

2. Priorities and Actions
Issue: – Anti Social Behaviour

Anti Social Behaviour continues to be a priority and staff will continue to target those who behave in a manner which causes harassment, alarm and or distress to others. This behaviour can involve the behaviour of individuals, groups, addresses and or locations, we will respond and deal with reports made to us as well as those we identify whilst on patrol.

Groups of youths and individuals stopped or identified for causing anti-social behaviour may be dealt with in one or more of the following ways:

• Alcohol seized
• Relevant checks carried out
• Alcohol or Fairway letter sent to parents
• Accompany youth home and speak with parent – dependant on the level of ASB
• Section 59 Warning, causing anti-social behaviour with a vehicle
• Fixed Penalty Notice

Individuals who are currently subject of Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABC’s) and Anti Social Behaviour Orders (ASBO’s) are monitored by Neighbourhood Team Staff and where required visits are made and regular contact maintained to prevent these persons from becoming involved in further Anti Social Behaviour.

I would like to encourage all residents to call in any reports of Anti Social Behaviour, including but not limited to noise nuisance, street drinking, inappropriate gatherings etc. To report any issues the below are the best means of contacting the Team:

• Come into Beverley Police Station
• When you see an officer out on patrol
• By calling 101 and asking to speak to your local neighbourhood team
• By email at NeighbourhoodTeamBeverleyCluster@humberside.pnn.police.uk

Actions taken or to be taken: Patrols will continue to target locations and individuals responsible for Anti Social Behaviour and deal with any reported incidents in a positive manner, dealing with the concerns of the public but also allowing where appropriate kids to be kids.

3. Priority

Issue: – Reduce Criminal Damage

The Neighbourhood policing Team are working extra hours at this time to reduce the levels of criminal damage within the town. Extra patrols have been tasked with targeting known hot spot areas and are also assisting the officers on night time economy as members of the public leave the pubs and head home. This has always been a time where incidents of criminal damage have increased and we are hoping the increased patrols will deter such issues.

The previously reported damage to car tyres also appear to have stopped which is good news. We are still looking for information regarding the offender who has continued to commit such offences and any information would be gratefully received by ringing the Humberside police non-emergency number of 101.

We are currently experiencing an increase in graffiti in the Beverley area which is appearing all over the town. We have not had this problem for a long time and would like to bring it to an end. If anyone has any information on who maybe responsible please contact the neighbourhood team at Beverley Police Station by using the 101 number.
Actions taken or to be taken:

Extra high visibility foot patrols have been carried out in the area during times when we believe offences occurred. Press releases have been used requesting information and possible suspects have been spoken to. It is believed the offender is likely to be upset by people parking on footpaths. If anybody has any information please contact the Beverley neighbourhood team on 101.

4. Priority

Issue: – Cycle Thefts, Beverley

There has been a slight increase in cycle thefts in and around the Beverley Area. The offenders appear to be targeting high value bikes that are being left insecure or in garages or sheds. A number of young males have been arrested recently and a number of bikes recovered.

Officers from the Community Policing Team will be out targeting suspected offenders who are known to ourselves and we will act upon information received regarding such offences.

Residents are reminded to have pedal cycles marked for identification purposes, lock securely when left unattended and where possible leave in a visible location.

If you want your bike post coded, officers from the Beverley Neighbourhood Team provide this service free of charge. If you ring 101 to provide your details we will arrange a suitable time for you to attend the Police Station or arrange a visit to your home address.

If you have recently lost or had a bike stolen then there are a large amount of cycles that are currently being stored and unclaimed at Beverley Police Station.

Known offenders targeted, positive action taken against offenders. Post coding of bikes to continue and Schools to be visited so that bikes can be post coded on mass. Bike and scooter post coding has taken place at both Minster and Keldmarsh Primary Schools in the last month in conjunction with East Ridings Road Safety Officers.
