Following a motion submitted by Cllr David Elvidge last Wednesday, East Riding of Yorkshire Council has agreed to implement a review of its policy about advertising display boards.
After being contacted by a partially sighted resident who has been experiencing some issues navigating Beverley town centre because of the amount of A-Boards located on the footway Cllr Elvidge undertook a walkthrough of the main shopping areas with a Council Officer.
After viewing the situation for himself Cllr Elvidge felt a review would be useful to make sure that the guidance was as clear and up to date as possible.
He said:
“It is really important that the Council finds a good balance between making sure businesses have the opportunity to bring in customers through pavement advertising and also ensuring that all our residents and visitors can navigate East Riding town centres safely and easily.”
“I am very pleased that my motion passed as we now have opportunity to check that the Council’s policy is working as it should and, if necessary, to make changes where they are needed.”
