Have Your Own Ray Of Light Shine On Beverley At Christmas

Beverley Christmas Lights will be bring more festive cheer to Saturday Market this year with brand new features including new large snowflakes, Little Blizzards.

These lights are to be installed on new lamp posts in the car park area along with a motif wishing everyone Merry Christmas.

Beverley Christmas Lights Group’s aim is to brighten up Saturday Market as this is the largest area of Beverley town centre and has previously been quite dark, lacking the same festive feeling as the Market Cross and the rest of the town.

Prue Blake from the Christmas Lights Group said;

“As always this a very costly exercise and we  are grateful for the support we receive at our fund raising activities throughout the year. In addition we are also urging local residents to take the opportunity to sponsor the new lights.”

“It might be that a family wishes to sponsor a display in memory of their loved ones or someone might now live elsewhere and they can leave their stamp on the town – notices attached to the lights will carry the name of the sponsor.”

“People are usually surprised when they find out how much the lights actually cost.  The snowflakes can be sponsored for £500 and the Little Blizzards for £150 for one off payments and acknowledgement of this will carry on each year.”

“Most of the feedback we get is very good and people comment on the classiness of the display in Beverley. With kind support the Christmas Lights are getting better and better.”

“One of our committee members – Gill Barnes – holds a Ladies’ Day celebration at her home and this has raised enough to pay for two snowflakes which is a great result.”

Cllr Jim Whitfield has been one of the first to take this up and has sponsored a Little Blizzard, he said;

“Having been associated with the Beverley Christmas Lights Group in Beverley I appreciate how much hard work goes into making the display throughout the town such a success and I wanted to make a personal contribution to help them.”

One family who have sponsored a Little Blizzard are the Kidd family – Lesley, Sarah and Rachael – who have done this in memory of their late husband and father Ken.

Anyone wishing to sponsor a motif in Beverley – either in full or to make a contribution – can contact Prue Blake on 07790427649.

  1. £150 is more than most people would want to donate. I think that Blackpool’s idea of selling a light bulb that you can write your own name on for £1 and then using that bulb for the lights is a more sure fire way of raising a few quid. Some pubs and shops could have a container of them on the counter.
