Pop along on Saturday, 25 October to Beverley Art Gallery for The Big Draw between 10am and 2pm. Take inspiration from the picture collection and the exhibition and get sketching.
A tutor will be on hand with tips and ideas. Strictly no experience necessary. This is a free event, and all materials are provided but a suggested minimum donation of £1 per adult or family would be appreciated. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.
The artist and author Daphne Hicks will also be in the gallery on the Saturday, 25 October signing and discussing her new book on botanical art.
Having gained her Diploma with The Society of Botanical Artists in London, she has had many years of experience with watercolour, and her love and enthusiasm for the medium shines through in her writing, as she explains the properties and techniques need to achieve the translucency and clarity of colour required in Botanical painting.
Her book will guide you through the complexities of painting flowers from a simple step by step guide for beginners with advice on materials and colour mixing, to the creation of detailed and beautiful compositions for the more experienced Botanical artist.
The following week on Tuesday, 28 October, Martin Waters invites you to visit the gallery and share your memories of war – past and present – and help him develop his Memory Wall as part of his exhibition In Memoriam: Reflections on War.
Martin will be available to talk about the exhibition and members of the gallery staff will be on hand to scan or copy the photographs, and documentary material visitors are willing to share.
Martin will be available from 10am to 4pm, and all are welcome. This is a free event. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.
Finally, for all you budding artists out there in East Yorkshire and Hull, application forms are now available for our 18th Open Art and can be collected from the gallery.
