Beverley Branch Gets Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal Underway

The Royal British Legion’s 2014 Poppy Appeal got under way in Beverley. Volunteers from Beverley Branch of the British Legion were in the town centre collecting donations from the public.

Rod Evans, joint Poppy Appeal Organiser for the Beverley Branch said:

“Last year in Beverley, we collected over £32,000.  It would be wonderful if we could equal, or even exceed that amount this year.”

“Money we raise helps us to give practical, social and financial support to the serving and ex-service community and their families – today and for the rest of their lives.”

“Between October 1st 2012 and September 30th 2013, the total expenditure on welfare needs in North & East Yorkshire alone was over £100,000 and The Royal British Legion is currently spending £1.7 million per week, providing this support throughout England and Wales, all with strict confidentiality.”

“We hope to raise a record amount in North & East Yorkshire during this year’s Poppy Appeal as we commemorate 100 years since the start of World War 1.”

“This can only be achieved through the incredible hard work of our volunteers who give up their time to help us provide help where it is needed as well as enabling us all to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their Country.”
