East Riding of Yorkshire Council has approved three applications made to its High Street Fund, paving the way for further investment and activities to support the areas High Streets and Market Places.
Available to thirteen locations in the East Riding, last week saw the first fully-detailed applications being considered by the grants’ panel. Beverley had two applications approved.
The North Bar Traders’ Association are proposing to organise a series of specialist markets, and the Beverley Christmas Lights Committee are proposing new decorative lighting for Saturday Market. David Bird, chairman of the North Bar Traders’ Association, said:
“We are delighted that East Riding of Yorkshire Council has given us the opportunity to build on the success of the Georgian Quarter.
“Our themed markets next year will once again fill the quarter with a unique offer in this most special part of Beverley.”
Driffield Town Council proposed a public art project that would link to a recent bequest towards a significant piece of sculpture in the town, this project is still in development but the panel’s decision to award the funding, subject to the final detail being available, means that the commissioned artist can start to prepare ideas for the sculpture.
Councillor Jane Evison, said:
“From the start when East Riding of Yorkshire Council provided the funding to help our High Streets, we did not want to be prescriptive on the ideas that groups wanted to come forward with. ”
“The first applications to be approved have each been developed and will be delivered by different groups and organisations and each we expect, will add value and be well-received.
We know that a number of other locations are currently working on grant applications, and so we expect that the next round of grant assessments will include many more covering a wider geography and a variety of proposals.”
“I would strongly urge any groups or town and parish councils still considering making an application to talk to us very soon.”
Grants of between £2,000 and £5,000 are available for single group applicants whilst joint group applications can apply for up to £10,000.
