Hodgsons FC came from two goals down to beat Eastern Rangers at the Beverley Leisure Centre.
Poor weather made playing very difficult on a pitch that only just passed an inspection enabling the East Riding County League fixture to go ahead.
Jordon Dexter and Chris Robinson both scored twice while Michael Claxton chipped in with a goal as the Tanners claimed all three points to leap frog local rivals Beverley Town in the league table.
Manager Chris Whiting speaking after the match said;
“I thought we were in for one of those days after going two goals down inside the first ten minutes.”
“When you see your team go behind you know it can go one of two ways. Players can start to argue and get on each other’s back, but it seemed to kick start us into action.”
“There were some big performances out there, Mark Richardson controlled the midfield, and this gave us the platform we needed to get forward and play our game.”
“It was a close call for man of the match between Richardson and Robinson, our left back who score two great goals.”
“I am chuffed to bits with the attitude of the entire team. They showed great character and heart battling for everything. We certainly deserved to win.”
The game also saw the return of Dan Piwinski though the lifelong Tanner never got a chance as he was overlooked when the substitutes were used.
Piwinski who boasts some of the best passing stats in local football is highly regarded by the Tanners boss, commenting on the player Whiting said;
“Dan is a big character in the dressing room, he said he will be available for the next 3 to 4 weeks and if that is the case he will certainly be getting some game time.”
“I know he was disappointed not to get on, but if he carries on showing up he will get game. We don’t want to be losing players like that from the club.”
Hodgsons FC are again at home next weekend when they face AFC Preston at the Beverley Leisure Centre.
Final Score: Hodgsons FC 5 AFC Preston 3
