A military instructor who suffered brain damage following a motorcycle injury has today completed a 24-hour row to raise funds for The Royal British Legions MediCinema at Headley Court in Surrey.
Corporal David Hames and his colleagues, Corporals’ Billy Brogan, Atunaisa Lalauvaki, Scott Hughes, Matthew Kemp, Matty Skewis, Emma Rowlands and Natalie Layzell have raised £543.16 after rowing a distance of 496 kilometres for the MediCinema at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre.
David said:
“I suffered moderate brain injury following a motorcycle accident, and as a result I attended a 2 week minor traumatic brain injury course at Headley Court. It was there that I first heard about MediCinema.”
MediCinema provides a service for individuals who are unable to attend their local cinema, be it amputees or other illnesses.
MediCinema’s are located in hospitals across the UK and although films are donated by the film industry, the cinema at Headley Court does require funding for general running costs and maintenance.
Elizabeth Johnson, the MediCinema Manager at Headley Court gives all of her time to working in the cinema and fundraising for the cause.
“When she spoke of how much the charity meant to her, I just wanted to help.” David explained. “When I told my work colleagues and friends about it, they all wanted to help – it was a real team effort.”
