Beverley Braves Rugby League Club held their presentation evening for all age groups at the same venue on the same day for the first time ever in late November.
The Beverley Memorial Hall in Beverley was the venue with two sessions to hand out trophies to over one hundred junior rugby league players.
The guest of honour for the first session was Chris Green of Hull FC and England Knights and for the second session, the trophies were handed out by Chris Welham of Hull KR and England Knights and former Australian schoolboy international Jordan Rankin of Hull FC.
All the Braves players received a trophy in recognition of their efforts in the 2014 season and there were also a number of individual awards for each age group.
In the under eights, Archie Harwood took the top award of Man of Steel, and the Players’ Player trophy went to Alex Argent-Moss. Parents’ Player was Charlie Brown whilst the award for the Most Improved Player went to Oliver Egan. The Coaches trophy was won by William Parkinson.
Next up were the under nines, and it was Jacob Parkinson that won the coveted Man of Steel trophy, with Matty Smith and William Wilson sharing the Players’ Player award. Matty was also Most Improved and William won the Coaches Award. Meanwhile, Sam Shrimpton walked away with the Parents’ Player of the year.
Later in the evening, it was the turn of the older boys and the first trophies to be awarded came from the Beverley Rugby League Supporters Club. This is a small group of volunteers who show their appreciation of the sport in Beverley by not only following every team home and away but also raising funds for that support rugby league in Beverley at all levels.
The supporter’s club trophies have been awarded for around ten years and include the names of previous recipients some of whom have gone on to play professionally or at student international level. The under elevens award went to Cain Robb. Marcus Walker won the under twelves, the recipient at under thirteen was Reece Dixon and the under sixteen winner was Nathan Collinson.
At under eleven, the other trophy winners were led by Tom Nuttall, who was Player of the Year. Ollie Adamson and Joe McCabe shared the Most Improved award. Players’ Player was Charlie Gay with the Parents award going to Josh Hamlyn. Isaac Merryweather was the winner of this year’s Coaches Award.
Man of Steel at under twelve went to Marcus Walker, with the Players’ Player award going to Archie Murdoch – Lewis Egan and Will Wallis picking up the second and third-place trophies in what was a very close vote. Most Improved was Tom Newton, and Tom Cohen won the Coaches Award. Top Tackler went to Ethan Rowbotham. Ollie Loney was a close second and George Bennett-Teare picking up the medal for third. Jack Turner was recognised as Trainer of the Year.
The under thirteens Man of Steel went to Martin Dukes and Max Sutherland was Player of the Year whilst Reece Dixon bagged a trophy for both Players’ Player, and Top Try Scorer. Alfonso Walker was Parents’ Player, and the award for Most Improved went to Nathan Foster.
Finally, it was the turn of the under sixteens. Man of Steel was Will Johnson, and Players’ Player was won by James McGahey. Joe Wardill was Parents’ Player with the Most Valuable Player award being shared by Connor Davies and Nathan Collinson. Bailey Clark was the Most Improved Player for the under sixteens.
