Residents Encouraged To Register For Money-saving Energy Switch Scheme

Residents are being encouraged to register for a scheme which offers potentially large savings on energy bills.

East Riding households are invited to register for the scheme organised by East Riding of Yorkshire Council as part of the Big Community Switch and administered by the UK’s leading collective switching expert, iChoosr Ltd.

It will be the seventh auction to energy firms since the scheme began in June 2013. It is free for households to join and there is no obligation to take up the winning supplier’s tariff offer.

The switching process is easy. The new provider will take care of the whole process and East Riding of Yorkshire Council offers support to residents for the duration of their new energy contract if they choose to switch.

Councillor Symon Fraser, said:

“The YORSwitch team has an excellent track record of delivering savings to residents through the deals being done with the energy suppliers.”

“Residents can reap the benefits of group purchasing in what is becoming a much more competitive market places.”

In the most-recent YORSwitch auction, 2,958 households in the East Riding registered for the scheme, with 498 people deciding to switch after the auction between energy companies.

It resulted in those East Riding residents choosing to switch saving an average of £220 per household.

For the next round of the scheme, events will be held throughout the registration period for people to attend and ask questions.

The next event will be held at the Beverley Customer Service Centre on Monday, 8 December from 9am-3pm.

Households wanting to sign up can register their interest by visiting the website www.eastriding.gov.uk/yorswitch or by telephoning (01482) 393939 and leaving their details.

The registration period closes on Monday, 2 February 2015 and the auction for energy suppliers will be held on Tuesday, 3 February 2015.
