Beverley Ward Councillors have met with ERYC Officers following concerns from residents that Coronation Gardens and Hengate Gardens are no longer locked overnight.
At the meeting, agreement was reached that the gardens would be locked overnight until further notice giving Officers and Councillors a chance to assess what future impact the locking of these gates might have taking into account the costs involved in the long-term and what alternative options might be available.
St Marys Ward councillor, Bryan Pearson said;
“We are keen on hearing from residents and would appreciate their views on the matter and possible suggestions on what they see as a sensible way forward.”
Minster & Woodmansey Ward councillor, David Elvidge said;
“We were extremely concerned that a recent press article had left both gardens, particularly vulnerable and would ask that if residents have any concerns, please contact their ward councillors.”
A decision was taken some months ago that for a trial period it would discontinue locking Beverley’s Coronation and Hengate Gardens. These are the only such gardens locked within the whole of the East Riding.
This decision was due to be reviewed in the New Year.
