Walkington Were Lucky To Get A Point Says Terry Jackson

Lord Nelson manager Terry Jackson feels Walkington were lucky to pinch a point after the sides shared the spoils in 4-4 draw at Broadgates.

Walkington who have been fighting at the top of the table for most of the season were out played and out classed by the Nelson in their own back yard and only nicked a point after being awarded a controversial penalty.

Speaking to HU17.net after the game Jackson said;

“Overall the match was well contested by both sides but I felt without question we were the better team on the day, Walkington were lucky to get a point.”

“There were lots of good individual performances, Tom Moore was one of those players. He did cracking job keeping Luke Thompson quiet all match.”

“Everyone knows the quality that Thompson brings to a game but I do not recall a single shot from him in the game nor did he create anything that caused us any trouble.”

“Given the selection problems we had to change our formation for the first time this season. Ash Grayston and Moor were given licence to attack in a 5-3-2 and it worked a treat.”

Jackson has every right to feel his side were hard done by. They stormed into a two goal lead as Phil Skitt then Mike Hewitt scored.

Walkington got back on level terms then took the lead for the first time in the match before Hewitt scored his second goal. James Chadburn then scored for the Nelson to give the visitors a 4-3 lead at half time.

Jackson however was left feeling hard done by when Walkington were awarded their second spot kick of the game to complete the scoring.

Jackson added;

“They were without all their big ‘superstars’ this week. Danny Moore was on the touch line and did not even pull a kit on for this massive local derby. We gave them a footballing lesson in their own back yard.”

The match also saw Jackson return to the ground where he spent many years and player, commenting on going back to Broadgates he said;

“He was a very strange experience to be back there in away dressing room, it was odd for me.”

The Lord Nelson remain one place off the bottom of the East Riding County League. They return to action in the new year when they will host Holme Rovers at Longcroft School.

Final Score: Walkington 4 The Lord Nelson 4
