Town Twice Let Slip Lead As 10-Man Wawne Battle To Draw

Beverley Town Football Club had defensive errors and some weak refereeing to blame as they twice let slip a lead against ten-man Wawne United.

Harry Lomas gave Town the lead as he nodded home from close range,  only for Wawne to hit back ten minutes later through the boot of Shaun Scotthorne.

Beverley responded well in the second-half restoring, their lead through Ryder Smith.

However, the champions again found themselves on level terms as Wawne equalised as Sean Lyons pulled off a perfect one two outside placing the ball past Adam Nicholson into the bottom right corner.

Speaking after the game, Town boss Ross Cording said:

“This was two points dropped – after a pleasing display we switched off when they went down to ten men.

“Basic defensive errors cost us and not wishing to point the finger of blame at the referee, this standard was far too high for him and a simple penalty decision has cost us all three points.”

Beverley move up to eighth spot in the Humber Premier League, some 15  points behind leaders Sculcoates Amateurs.

Next weekend they will make the short trip to Dene Park where they will take on title contenders Hull United AFC.

Final Score: Beverley Town FC 2 Wawne United 2
