One of Beverley’s most well known pubs, the Royal Standard, is teaming up with a local business and sports club to host a mini Real Ale Festival from the February 5th until Sunday February 15th.
Allen Slinger, Landlord at the Royal Standard, is holding the event after the popular public house in North Bar Without, got a Cask Marque – an accreditation awarded to pubs throughout the UK as a mark of excellence for the way in which they serve cask ale.
Recent independent research by Cardinal for the 2014 Cask Report identified that 71% of beer drinkers recognised the Cask Marque plaque as a badge of quality.
Every year, qualified assessors make over 20,000 visits to over 9,000 pubs which hold the award. They test for temperature, appearance, aroma and taste of teh ales. All beers available must make the grade to pass the assessment.
Speaking to HU17.net Allen said;
“To celebrate The Royal Standard’s recent Cask Marque accreditation, we are holding a mini real ale festival, and we would love to see everyone there.”
Speaking about the mini Real Ale Festival Allen said;
“Over the ten-day period, we will have five guest ales available, with four on the bar at all times and should I sell out then I shall get some more! 10p from every pint of real ale sold will also go to the Junior Rugby Club.”
Allen is keen to make this a community event, and has linked up with ‘Beer in a Bottle’, the Real Ale shop based on Ladygate. Allen added;
“On the opening night, Jill Cuthbert Walker and Patrick Gladstone from ‘Beer in a Bottle’ will be popping down to pull the first pint at around 7 o’clock.”
“Then at 8.30pm Junior Tupai, the Director of football at Beverley Rugby Union Club, will be coming down to call a general knowledge quiz, with all proceeds going to the Junior section of the Rugby Club.”
Allen is now looking for teams to take part in the quiz with the promise of what will be an enjoyable fun night while supporting a great local cause. Anyone interested in taking part can pop into the pub or make contact via the Royal Standard Facebook Page.
Sounds great, small local businesses need support, good luck
