A Million Missing Voters

Margaret Pindar Hits Out At David Elvidge Over Grovehill Sitepindar

In the week in which figures reveal the Tory and Lib Dems’ disastrous reforms to electoral registration mean one million voters have already fallen off the electoral roll, Labour’s prospective Parliamentary candidate for Beverley Holderness, Margaret Pinder, has announced the launch of a campaign to encourage young people in the constituency to register to vote.

She has contacted all the high schools and colleges in the area with an offer to speak to students about why politics matters and the importance, not only of registering to vote, but also of making their voice heard at the ballot box.

Commenting on the move she said;

“I believe it is important to see our young people engage with a process that decides so much of their lives now and in the future, I have stressed that I will not be pushing a party political agenda.”

“That would not be appropriate. Instead I shall be inviting students to look at all the political parties and make informed decisions.”

“I also think it would be a great opportunity for young people to join a campaign on the ground for a day and experience that kind of grassroots activism out on the doorstep and on the street, canvassing and talking to voters.”

“Apart from helping build a sense of what politics means for everyday people, it’s a great way of building confidence.”

More than half the schools and colleges in the constituency have already responded positively to this initiative and Margaret will be encouraging students to engage on social media by promoting registration on Facebook and on Twitter using the trending hashtag #iregisteredtovote.
