Following two sell-out Edinburgh runs, two West End seasons and UK tours, impressionist Luke Kempner – star of YouTube hit Downstairs At Downton and the musicals Les Mis and Avenue Q is once again touring his solo show around the UK including a two-night performance at East Riding Theatre on 14 and 15 February.
As celebrities start appearing at the Abbey, cultures clash and eras hilariously collide. Building on the multi-character original scenario of his YouTube video, Luke has created an original story in which the characters of Downton Abbey are in crisis and have to call upon modern celebrities to help the cast save the estate from financial ruin.
Writer/performer Luke Kempner has recently appeared in Sleeping Beauty for Salisbury Playhouse, directed by Joyce Branagh and as the Professor in the UK tour of South Pacific, directed by Bartlett Sher. He created a role in new musical LIFT at the Soho Theatre, directed by Steven Paling. He has also appeared in the UK tours of Avenue Q, directed by Jason Moore and Les Miserables, directed by Laurence Connor. Luke is a graduate of the Guildford School of Acting.
Sue Kirkman, Theatre Director at East Riding Theatre says:
“Fans of Downton Abbey will love this show. The TV series has been a huge success on a global scale and Luke Kempner’s version is a hilarious parody.”
“We are bringing cultural variety to Beverley and can cater for many different tastes. We invite local people to book tickets and come down to the cafe/bar prior to the performance to get a feel for what we can offer. Following on from the major success of our Christmas production of A Christmas Carol we are keeping the bar high, to offer an exciting alternative on Beverley’s cultural scene.”
