A number of people spent the night sleeping rough to help raise funds to support a charity that helps young homeless people.
Ali Crompton who organised the Sleep Easy night in Beverley that took place at the King’s Church Beverley said;
“This was the second Sleep Easy event in Beverley and certainly felt colder. Altogether we had sixteen people who turned up with cardboard to build their own shelter and spend the night sleeping rough.”
“We had a great mix from the local community wanting to do something to help raise awareness of homelessness and raise vital funds for the Humber YMCA.”
“Humber YMCA have historically worked on the south bank but have just begun working in Hull through Turning Point.”
“The services of turning point help homeless people with accommodation, support, friendship and helping them get back on their feet.”
David Elvidge who also braved the cold said;
“I choose to support the YMCA Sleep Easy event as it not only highlights the issue of rough sleepers, their work also targets young people.”
“They also help get them into accommodation and through a successful proven programme support the young people to gain employment and permanent housing.”
“For my part it was an incredibly cold night, but just one night, I hope however what we have done helps some young people move on with their lives for far longer.”
Well done to Ali Crompton for organising this event and well done to all who took part and those who sponsored said participants
