Staff at Tesco’s Beverley store swapped their navy blue uniforms for a variety of red attire in the company’s first major fundraiser for their new National Charity Partners British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK.
Held on Friday 6th February to co-incide with BHF’s ‘Wear it. Beat it.’ awareness campaign, the event was a great success with £419 raised for the two charities. Highlight of the day’s activities were the brave volunteers who took turns to soak in a bath full of tinned tomatoes!
Alex Boak, store manager at Beverley said:
‘‘Our customers have been very generous, and I’d like to thank them all for donating to what are very worthwhile causes.’’
The Morton Lane store is looking to continue its recent success in charity fundraising. In the 22 months of the previous partnership with Diabetes UK, Beverley raised over £20,000 making it one of the leading stores in Tesco’s UK network and Alex, and his team are already busy planning their next fundraising event.
Dave Ryley, the store’s Community Champion added;
“‘We would be delighted to hear from any local community groups that would like to help with our future fundraising activity. Please contact me on 07729 428086 or via e-mail: beverley@communityattesco.co.uk’.”
