Richard Fell scored twice for Beverley Town Veterans as they came from behind to beat Cherry Burton at Longcroft School.
Going into the game Town were missing seven players. Richard Jagger was called into the side playing in the middle of three at the back. The old timer rolled back the years in what was a good debut by the aging centre half.
Beverley Town fell behind early on in the first half but got back on level terms before half time when player manager Steven Harvey found Fell who lashed home.
Fell doubled his tally for the day with another goal on 60 minutes completing the come back home side and securing all three points.
Speaking after the match Harvey said;
“Given the number of players out we were missing that ‘wee’ spark today. It was a scrappy affair and neither side really created any clear cut chances.”
“I am delighted with all three points, the result keeps the destiny of the title in our hands and although two sides go up we are focused on winning the league.”
Beverley return to action in two weeks time when they will hit the road and take on the current league leaders Knottingley Albion.
When the sides last met Beverley became the first side to beat their West Yorkshire rivals a result Harvey is confident can repeat, he said;
“It is a massive match for us, we have four games left to play. Hopefully I will have a full squad to select from and if I do I am sure we will get all three points.”
“This was a great all round team performance, it was a very ugly game at times and we did what we needed to do. Personally I was very pleased to be involved with the first goal seeing how it was against my old club.”
With Knottingley winning Town things are looking tight at the top of the table. Town are just five points adrift of their rivals with a game in hand.
If Town win all their remaining fixtures they will win the title and be promoted as champions in their first season.
