The Worshipful Company of Carmen, one of the Livery Companies of the City of London have visited the Defence School of Transport.
The Company has always had strong links with the Armed Forces since 1803; that close link continued when the Master Carmen and 60 members of the Company were hosted by DST’s Commandant, Colonel Rob Peacock.
This isn’t the first time that the Master of the Carmen has visited DST, Lt Col Paul Holder who is a great fan of DST completed his Troop Commander’s course at the school in the 1990’s.
Lt Col Holder who is the first serving officer to take up the position of Master within any of the City of London’s 110 livery companies said:
“As Carmen we very much promote the trade of transport and logistics throughout the country and it is represented exceptionally here at the Defence School of Transport.”
Whilst at DST the Worshipful Company of Carmen had the opportunity to travel in a wide range of military vehicles, some were also fortunate enough to demonstrate their driving skills on DST’s 26km training area.
Now that carts have been rendered obsolete by cars, the Worshipful Company of Carmen remain as a ceremonial and charitable institution.
In partnership with the Armed Forces’ charities SSAFA and RBL, the Carmen are proud of the many ways they have been able to assist former servicemen and their dependants.
