Jamie Gill Scores All The Points As Beavers Stun Pontefract

Beverley RUFC seconds came from behind to beat Pontefract 11-10 at Beaver Park.

The Beavers took the lead through the boot of Jamie Gill who slotted home a penalty mid way through the first half.

Gill however missed the chance to double that lead just minutes later when again Beverley were awarded a penalty but he dragged his kick wide of the mark.

Pontefract showed why they are competing at the top of the table. The visitors crossed the line to score try, adding the conversion.

Not long after they added another three points as they converted a penalty to go into the break with 10 – 3 lead.

Beverley however took the control of the second half, Gill again at the heart of everything as he
scored a try. Beverley were then given the opportunity to go ahead when they were awarded a penalty with just five minutes in the game.

Gill stepped up and made no mistake to make the match 11-10 securing a well deserved win for the Beavers.

Beverley’s man of the match Rob Vaux speaking after the game said;

“Our fitness won us the game today. Pontefract only really had a forwards and when they tired we were able to grind out the result.”

“This was certainly a forwards a game, we rattled them and sent them away with their tails between their legs.”

An aging Vaux was quite to praise the youngsters who are starting to break into the senior squads, he said;

“We have a good crop of young players coming through and for the second week running they played a key role in the game.”

“James William deserves a mention for his performance. Last week he started his first game on the wing but today he was asked to play a more familiar role at scrum half.”

“For a small lad he plays with no fear. He has no problem in taking on the big guys. Another great attribute to his game is how he absorbs information and learns from the senior players in the team.”

The Beavers return to action in 3 weeks time when take on Hull at Ferens Ground
